Coming to America 2 : A dose of nostalgia
Coming 2 America (2) has being received with loads of mixed feelings and expectations, I guess a lot of people who enjoyed part 1 over 30 years ago in 1988, went in with a lot of expectations only to meet something less than their dreams, I guess that is why most people feel like their expectations were not met.
Eddie has being on this journey for a very long time and I guess loads of people just wanted something way better than what they got. For me I went with little or no expectations just like walking in for “Living in Bondage 2” another sequel from Nollywood that was released 30 years after, the major question on the minds of most people was what exactly where they going to act or say after such a long time, that was my major worry for Coming 2 America, if you were not going to surpass the benchmark of 1988, then you had better leave it alone and allow it remain as a classic movie of all time, for those of you who haven’t seen part 1, I mean the younger generation, please go see it so you can understand the reason for the comparison.
The honest truth I went in with little or no expectations so I guess I was happy I did, because I enjoyed the movie, please do see it for you and leave a comment.
Eddie Murphy played the lead role again as Prince Akeem the heir to the throne of Zamuda, but this time his father was pretty old and about to die and he was meant to take over, as the new King he would need to have a son, who will also get prepared to become the next king when he is no more, his beautiful wife Lisa had only 3 daughters and had no hope of having another child for him, he really didn’t know what to do, the twist all of a sudden was that the oracle had discovered that Prince Akeem had a bastard child in Queen’s in New York, he had a one night fling with her, which lead to her being pregnant and she decided to keep the son.
They struggled to eat and get by little did they know that their life was about to change, when the information would be delivered to them that he was also a prince and the heir to the throne of Zamunda. When the king died Prince Akeem had to go and find his bastard son and bring him back home to teach him the ways of the people.
Well you will need to go catch the movie to see how they travelled, searched for him, found him, passed the message across and how they brought him home to his new mum and sisters, that didn’t go down well at all, but I guess they just needed to accept it.

To my verdict I would score this movie 8/10, I liked and enjoyed the movie maybe because I went in with a very low expectation, but it was nice and I had a very good laugh remembering the past and all that has happened, after it was a comedy movie what were we expecting some action or thriller, well no it was a very simple movie expected to make you laugh and remember the good old days, I guess that was all and nothing extraordinary, maybe I went in also in a very good mood this might have affected my judgment but then don’t forget it’s my judgment and you entitled to yours. Well to what I liked I adored the costumes, the locations chosen and the setups, the songs and soundtrack, the live performances and speech by Morgan Freeman.
Well It was just a simple movie go with that mindset and have a good laugh that’s all. For those of you who love Eddie and want to have a good laugh with a simple comedy movie please go out there and support Eddie, you would make him happy.
