Brother Jekwu
So you know that feeling you have when you go to watch a movie and at the end begin to ask yourself. What just happened here? What message were they trying to pass across? What was the story line? The questions just go on and on and on and on. That was the same case in this very movie. Although some people did find it funny which I did for a few scenes I sincerely feel that they lost me at some point, I just couldn’t get a hang of the movie; it was like there was no bearing or direction. This movie absolutely didn’t kill it for me, very far from it. I was told to just go see it myself in case I might have a different view, but my case was no exception to theirs; I wasnt impressed at all. There was just a disjoint in this movie, like there was just something wrong.
The 103 mins movie was not fantastic, they didn’t pay attention to details and were not very careful with linking and arranging the story. I didn’t really get the roles of some popular acts in the movie. It was like they wanted to have many popular acts just show up and not do much in delivering a good movie. I kind of get the fact that it was supposed to be a comedy movie, but it didn’t kill it for me. The movie featured acts Mike Ezuruonye, Huddah Munroe, Juilet Ocheng, Sabina Stadler, Derick Assetto, Klint Da Drunk, Funny Bone, Nedu, Wofai Fada, Angela Okorie and many more.
Brother Jekwu started with the scene where he arrived from the village in preparation to travel to Kenya to meet with his cousin Nkechi as she was called in the movie. She was a wealthy young lady who was into all kinds of shady deals in Kenya; little did Jekwu know that she was bringing him over so that she could introduce him into the business. On arriving Kenya, Jekwu kept shouting and commenting about how beautiful the city of Kenya looked. To him this was just a typical example of living abroad. It was only on his first trip out, a few nights after he arrived Kenya that things went pretty wrong. During the operation he was excused to go to the rest room, when he left they were double crossed and all his gang members killed. He started running into the bush for safety. He ran for days till he got to several places where he had various issues, till he later found his cousin at the end of the movie. Well for me I really can’t explain what I got out of this movie, no link, no storyline, no correlation, no lessons, although the choice of location and casting was ok, they also did make me laugh a little at some point. Generally it wasn’t just it for me all.
To my verdict I will score this movie 4 out of 10, why because I was far from being impressed and thrilled with the movie. For me it was like I lost my money, I had no value for my money and didn’t even want to wait till the end. It will be very difficult for me to recommend this movie to anyone, so if there is anyone who is really bored and has nothing much to do, then you can go check this movie out. I am sure some people may definitely have a different opinion to mine.
