The film opens in a cramped Los Angeles apartment that’s bursting at the seams with character and color. Dreux (Keke Palmer) and her roommate Alyssa (SZA) wake up to chaos. Alyssa’s boyfriend has blown their rent money, and the landlord has given them until 6 PM to scrape together $1,500 or face eviction.

They try anything from desperate blood donations and illegal sneaker flips to navigating shady loan sharks and dodging a menacing neighborhood hustler. The movie’s rhythm is relentless, pulsing with tension, humor, and the kind of real-world absurdity you can’t look away from.

Amidst the chaos, their friendship shines brightest. Dreux’s driven pragmatism beautifully contrasts Alyssa’s laid-back creativity. SZA, in her acting debut, brings vivid authenticity to Alyssa, her comic timing is natural, fresh, and unexpected. Palmer’s energy, as ever, lights up every frame.
