Fantasy Island – A Reboot without much relevance

This Fantasy Island reminds me of Maze Runner of 2018 and those typical movies when you try to run out of a particular place but you’re trapped and all chances of a escape feels bleak. You know the  type of movie where you have to create a strategy on how to get out of the island and of course you know not all of them will it out alive, this was a familiar scenario. I kind of liked it despite most people seeing it as not being original or copying an existing story. It was a simple storyline and a basic movie, going in with a low expectation will make you feel better with the end just like i did.

The movie was directed by Jeff Wadlow and written by Christopher Roach and Jillian Jacobs, the movie had just a few cast and some of them were familiar faces, the storyline was simple and plain, it did’t offer any new perspective to the franchise, but it had some basic life lessons, I learnt you have to be very careful of what you wish for, sometimes in life you get them and you find out they were not exactly what you wanted. The movie didn’t have loads of twist so it was so easy to kind of predict the end, but I could tell who would leave or die. The cinematography, soundtrack and location chosen was brilliant and looked so beautiful and exciting I felt like going on a vacation too, but not to one that I would never return. The end was weird and I guess we would be expecting a new edition once a new set of visitors arrive the island.

Michael Pena who played the role of “Mr. Roarke” in the movie was one of the main actors and he owned the Island that allowed visitors to come from their cities to come spend a few days on a fantasy Island that could bring all their fantasies to reality and make them feel like they were real. So a group of 5 young people arrive the island with the hope of having their long awaited imaginations or fantasies brought to life in an Island that could bring everything to life, change their lives and live their dreams, they all had to see their fantasies to the very end, no turning back, but along the line, they found out that their fantasies were twisted and actually that of another who was bitter pained and needed revenge on all of them, who she felt had a hand in the death of her supposed to be boyfriend, her only one and true love, be very careful of what you ask for, you would need to watch the movie to see what they all had as their fantasy

To my verdict since the movie was just basic and simple and one that we have seen before I would be nice to say 6/10 and yes that’s me being so nice, in as much as it was basic for fair critics you would enjoy it simplicity, fun and cool story, nothing tremendous to hold on to, but I must advise that you seat till the very end, then would you really find out what the entire thing was all about. For the all the comedy, science fiction and fantasy lovers out there you might enjoy this movie, for the serious critic and authentic storyline lovers, I am not so sure this is for you.
