Glamour Girls – A Nollywood Movie Review

2 Min Read

Glamour Girls reimagines the 1994 classic through a modern lens, exploring glamour, betrayal, and the darker side of luxury in Lagos. The film follows Emma (Sharon Ooja), who loses her stripping job and, in desperation, reaches out to Donna (Nse Ikpe-Etim), an interior designer who doubles as a procurer for high-end escorting. At first Donna rejects Emma for being “raw” and unrefined, but a makeover and Emma’s promise of potential change Donna’s mind.

Emma undergoes a transformation: she gains access to opulent parties, luxurious lifestyles, and wealthy clients. Alongside Emma’s story, we see Louisa (Toke Makinwa), a boutique owner who secretly works as an escort; her marriage is strained by her hidden double life when her America-based husband Aaron shows up unannounced. Then there’s Jemma (Joselyn Dumas), torn between survival, love, and ethical compromise after her terminally ill husband’s medical bills push her back into Donna’s world. Donna’s agency is revealed to be more than just business power dynamics, loyalty, betrayal, competition all simmer in the background.

The narrative escalates when a wealthy accountant disappears, and a flash drive containing incriminating data becomes the object of desire for various players. Secrets, lies, and betrayal mount: Emma’s past is exposed; Louisa’s marriage collapses; Jemma commits a desperate act in retribution.

Donna, the supposed gatekeeper, finds herself torn between her loyalty to “the girls”, the moral costs of her enterprise, and the danger of her secrets being used against her. In the end, betrayal seems inevitable: characters suffer losses of trust, relationships, sometimes life itself and the glittering surface of their glamorous world is left cracked, showing the cost of ambition and façade.
