It was a pleasure seeing Rita Dominic in a movie as the lead. I am always happy when I see either Rita Dominic or Genevieve Nnaji because I kind of trust their movies. They don’t get to take on a lot of roles, so when they do, they kill it, Dominic totally did in this one.
For me one thing that is certain and paramount is having a perfect storyline, if you must add humour to it, do not leave out the essence of the movie, which is one of the main reasons people want to go to the cinemas in the first place.
Bound as the title depicts, was quite clear,Chineye as she was called in the movie“Rita” was bound by some cosmic mysterious power, holding her down from marrying her longtime boyfriend on earth.
The movie started on a very happy mode, she hadn’t being home for 3 years now, for fear of being attacked to go and settle down by family and relatives, but she summoned courage and went on the journey to go see her mum and find answers to some mysterious dreams she has being having for some time. The dreams looked so real that at times she woke up and held herself from believing it wasn’t in this life. Chinenye was 35 and had dated her boyfriend Elochukwu for 5 years now and he had proposed 3 times, but she turned it down, taking on a life time commitment.
The honest truth was that she truly loved him, but just couldn’t explain why she couldn’t say yes to his proposal, little did she know that she was possessed by some evil powers, which held her captive and didn’t want her to marry anyone on earth. Elochukwu was a very fine and handsome gentle man, who was willing to wait no matter how long even with the circumstances, he loved her so much and was willing to work with her on this journey till she said.
You need to see the movie to know if his wait was worth while paid off at the end.
Bound totally won me over with its storyline. Dominic connected solidly with her character you could feel the tears and sorrow in her eyes, that were constantly red and in pain, it looked so real.
The producers thought this one out, even thought we have seen several kinds of movies about young matured single ladies, there was something different about this one, it gave a new vibe to movies of this kind.
They added some spiritual sides to it, which most Nigerians really do not want to dive into. The good side of the movie was that it ended so well for me, I really would have felt bitter and crushed if she didn’t marry her old longtime boyfriend, but anyway that’s me feeling really bias here.
The movie was shot in Enugu and Lagos, and it totally reminded me of how beautiful the city of Enugu is there weren’t so many locations in Enugu, but the few were idle and looked perfect.
The costumes and make up were perfect and each cast was a perfect fit for their designated roles. I was slightly confused towards the end; did they kind of mix the traditional means and Christianity together? That was the only scene I didn’t quite get, but even at that I totally enjoyed the movie.
To my verdict I would say it was nice seeing “Rita Dominic” in this movie after a while,Chinenye also has got this Midas touch The movie deserves an 8/10. Why because they had a good storyline, cast location, costumes, cinematography and top-notch production. Most people could connect with this because over here in this side of the world, once a young girl isn’t married by her thirties, then she must be under a spell, which isn’t true. So for the romantic and drama movie fan lovers,I recommend this movie.
