The Life List is a 2025 romantic dramedy directed by Adam Brooks, based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s bestselling novel. Starring Sofia Carson as Alex Rose, the film follows a young woman’s transformative journey prompted by her late mother’s unconventional will.

Alex Rose, a driven executive at her family’s cosmetics company, faces upheaval following the death of her mother, Elizabeth (Connie Britton). In her will, Elizabeth removes Alex from her position and stipulates that Alex must complete a list of goals she wrote at 13 to claim her inheritance. Each completed task unlocks a video message from Elizabeth, guiding Alex through this journey of self-discovery.

Initially sceptical, Alex decides to pursue the list, which includes tasks like performing stand-up comedy, volunteering, reconnecting with estranged family members, and finding true love. As she checks off items, Alex confronts personal fears, mends broken relationships, and reevaluates her life’s direction.

Alex’s journey introduces her to Brad (Kyle Allen), the lawyer overseeing her mother’s will, and Garrett (Sebastian de Souza), a shelter coordinator. While she dates Garrett, a deeper connection develops with Brad, resulting to a love triangle. After a series of emotional revelations and misunderstandings, Alex realises that Brad embodies the qualities her mother outlined for true love.

Alex’s quest leads her to Vermont in search of her biological father, Johnny, with Brad’s support. Though the meeting is disappointing, it prompts Alex to reconcile with her stepfather and brothers, sharing her mother’s messages and strengthening familial bonds.

Upon completing the life list, Alex inherits the family home. She hosts a New Year’s Eve party, symbolising her personal growth and renewed relationships. The film concludes with Alex and Brad embracing, signifying the fulfilment of her mother’s final wish for her to find true love.
