As a young adult, Vuk finds his sister Foxy held captive in a cage at the hunter’s house. He uses his superior intelligence to mock the hunter’s dogs and frees her, bringing her to live in the forest.
During an autumn hunt, Karak is shot by the hunter, causing Vuk to swear revenge. Vuk systematically raids the hunter’s food storage and poultry, humiliating the hunter’s dogs.
The hunter sets a trap to catch Vuk, but the hunter’s own dogs and eventually the hunter himself fall into it. This ends with Vuk and his mate having their own cubs, continuing the cycle.
