Designed as a service robot, Roz awakens in a world devoid of humans, relying solely on her programming to navigate the unfamiliar wilderness. Initially met with fear and suspicion by the island’s animal inhabitants, Roz embarks on a quest to understand and adapt to her new environment.
Roz’s journey takes a poignant turn when she accidentally destroys a goose nest, leaving behind a single surviving egg. Driven by a sense of responsibility, she cares for the egg, and upon hatching, the gosling, named Brightbill (voiced by Kit Connor), imprints on Roz as his mother. This unexpected bond challenges Roz to learn about parenting, empathy, and the complexities of life beyond her original programming.

As Roz raises Brightbill, she gradually earns the trust of the island’s diverse animal community. With guidance from characters like Fink the fox (voiced by Pedro Pascal) and Pinktail the opossum (voiced by Catherine O’Hara), Roz learns to communicate and collaborate with the wildlife. She constructs a shelter, assists in resolving conflicts, and becomes an integral part of the island’s ecosystem.
As Brightbill matures, he must join his fellow geese in their migratory journey, forcing Roz to confront the pain of separation and the realities of letting go. Simultaneously, Roz’s presence on the island attracts attention from the outside world, leading to encounters with other robots and challenges that test her growth and the bonds she has formed.
