BLUE MOON – HOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEW

2 Min Read

Blue Moon is a quiet, intimate film that unfolds almost entirely over the course of a single night in New York City.

The story centers on Lorenz Hart, the legendary lyricist whose creative partnership with Richard Rodgers once defined American musical theater. On the night Rodgers celebrates the opening of Oklahoma!, Hart finds himself drifting through bars, restaurants, and empty streets, painfully aware that his era may be coming to an end.

As Hart moves from one encounter to another, memories surface past triumphs, missed opportunities, and the slow erosion of his confidence. Conversations with friends and industry figures reveal his fear of being forgotten, while his growing emotional attachment to a younger woman exposes his longing for connection in a world that no longer makes space for him. Alcohol becomes both a refuge and a mirror, forcing Hart to confront the reality of his declining relevance.

Rather than following a conventional rise-and-fall structure, the film lingers in moments: a half-finished song, a bitter joke masked as charm, a quiet breakdown in the corner of a restaurant. The success of Oklahoma! hangs over the entire night like a ghost, a symbol of progress that leaves Hart behind. By the final moments, Blue Moon becomes less about Broadway history and more about the loneliness of genius when time moves on without you.
