As the movie unfolds, the Protagonist realises time is not linear. Events loop. Actions affect the past and future at once. Battles are fought forwards and backwards at the same time. Characters die, return, and die again from different directions of time.
In the final act, everything collides. Two teams move in opposite directions through time to stop global destruction. Sacrifice becomes necessary. The Protagonist learns that he himself started Tenet in the future. The movie ends where it began, with knowledge, secrecy, and the heavy cost of saving a world that will never know it was saved.
