The movie opens in the busy, colorful city of Agrabah, where Aladdin, a smart and quick young man with no home, survives by stealing food and escaping guards through rooftops and narrow streets. Even with no money, he has a good heart. He shares food with hungry children and looks after his monkey friend, Abu.

One day, Aladdin meets Princess Jasmine, who is disguised as a normal girl walking among the people. Aladdin is drawn to her kindness. They share a small adventure while escaping the guards, and Aladdin falls for her immediately. But he soon learns she is the princess, living in the grand palace far above his world.
Meanwhile, the royal vizier, Jafar, is looking for a chosen person who can enter a magical cave called the Cave of Wonders. Only someone called a “diamond in the rough” can survive it. When Jafar discovers Aladdin fits this description, he tricks him into entering the cave. Inside, Aladdin finds the mysterious magic lamp. After danger, explosions, and collapsing rocks, Aladdin gets trapped inside with the lamp in his hands.

When he rubs it, the Genie appears — loud, funny, and powerful. The Genie offers him three wishes. Aladdin first uses a wish to become a prince so he can win Jasmine’s heart and prove he is worthy. With songs, dances, parades, and magic everywhere, Prince Ali arrives in Agrabah.
But as he tries to impress Jasmine, he learns that pretending to be someone else causes more confusion and pain. Jasmine wants honesty, not fake royalty. At the same time, Jafar wants the lamp and will do anything to get it. The story reaches its peak when Jafar finally steals the lamp and uses it to take power over the kingdom.

Aladdin, with bravery and clever thinking, fights back. In the final moments, he tricks Jafar into making a wish that destroys him. Peace returns to Agrabah, and Aladdin frees the Genie with his final wish. Jasmine chooses her own path, and Aladdin stays true to who he really is.
