Up North is a drama following the journey of Basset Otuekong, a rebellious and pampered heir to a wealthy Lagos family. Heading to the north kicking and screaming, Basset expects a temporary three-weeks stint before returning to his luxurious Lagos lifestyle. However, during his time at the orientation camp, he began to engage actively with the local community. He documents his experiences in social media, and is subsequently posted to teach at a rural secondary school in a community called Kadin Madaki, alongside his new best friend, Sadiq. During this time, he also meets Maryam, a passionate, intriguing local teacher who helps him connect with the culture and successfully train the girls. Under Bassey and Maryam’s guidance, the school’s all-girl teams achieved state recognition by winning the ā€œshe runs Bauchi competitionā€.

Bassey’s father, chief Otuekong visits Bauchi, highly impressed by his son’s transformation and the responsibility he has developed. He offers to sponsor the school and provide university scholarships for the students, assuming Bassey is now to return to Lagos and take over the family business. However Bassey defies his father’s expectations and finds true fulfillment in his own path rather than the destiny chosen by his father.

Up North is a story that shows self-discovery, showing how a ā€œspoiled heirā€ discovers his potential, finds love and develops a deeper appreciation for culture outside his comfort zone.
