Up North is a drama following the journey of Basset Otuekong, a rebellious and pampered heir to a wealthy Lagos family. To teach him responsibility and to prepare him for inheriting the family business, his father sends him to Bauchi state in Northern Nigeria for his one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) program.

Heading to the north kicking and screaming, Basset expects a temporary three-weeks stint before returning to his luxurious Lagos lifestyle. However, during his time at the orientation camp, he began to engage actively with the local community. He documents his experiences in social media, and is subsequently posted to teach at a rural secondary school in a community called Kadin Madaki, alongside his new best friend, Sadiq. During this time, he also meets Maryam, a passionate, intriguing local teacher who helps him connect with the culture and successfully train the girls. Under Bassey and Maryamās guidance, the schoolās all-girl teams achieved state recognition by winning the āshe runs Bauchi competitionā.

Basseyās father, chief Otuekong visits Bauchi, highly impressed by his sonās transformation and the responsibility he has developed. He offers to sponsor the school and provide university scholarships for the students, assuming Bassey is now to return to Lagos and take over the family business. However Bassey defies his fatherās expectations and finds true fulfillment in his own path rather than the destiny chosen by his father.
Up North is a story that shows self-discovery, showing how a āspoiled heirā discovers his potential, finds love and develops a deeper appreciation for culture outside his comfort zone.
