ONE TOO MANY – NOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEW

2 Min Read

One too many is a drama following Adesuwa, a single mother fighting for her son’s freedom, Otas.
Adesuwa comes from a struggling background. Her father is shot in the leg by a police officer. Later, while on an errand, she is violently cornered and raped by police officers. She flees her home and raises her resulting pregnancy, a don named Otas.

Years later, Otas finishes university and prepares for his NYSC. He visits his best friend Eric, who is the son of a powerful politician, Senator Makonde. The two get into a physical struggle inside Eric’s car over cheating and Eric’s possession of a gun and weed.

During the fight, Eric is accidentally shot and killed. Police officers immediately arrest Otas. However, during the altercation, Otas was in an accidental video call with his mother, which kept recording and captured the truth of what happened.

Adesuwa attempts to plead with Senator Makonde to help her son, but she is completely turned down. She discovers the recording but realizes one of the officers involved in the cover-up, Officer Lekan, is the same man who raped her years ago.
The plot moves between family drama, police brutality, tape and the legal battle leading to scattered pacing and pacing issues.
One too many stirs a question of how do you prove you didn’t kill a man when the police say you did?
