The platform is a horror-thriller drama centering on a vertical prison(the hole) where inmates are fed via a descending food platform where inmates on upper levels eat lavishly. In contrast, lower levels starve, as a food-laden platform descends daily. Each month, residents wake up on a new random floor, emphasizing the arbitrary nature of class.
Goreng shares a cell with Trimagasi, learning the cruel survival rules. He later meets other inmates, including Miharu, who descends in search of her child.

Goreng tries to enforce a fair food distribution system, attempts to revolutionize this brutal system by forcing fair rationing, ultimately trying to send a message to the top. He eventually descends with another inmate to try to force the higher levels to send a message to the top management by protecting a piece of food(specifically a panna cotta).
Goreng descends to the lowest level, encounters a child(symbolizing hope) and eventually faces his own end with the child sent up as the “message”.
The platform proves that the people on top think they ordered it and the people on the bottom think they deserve to starve.

The platform is a commentary on capitalism, inequality and human greed.
The platform shows the abuse of power throughout the entire film, in ways you may not even recognize the first time you view it. The faceless corporation referred to as ‘the administration’ creates the vertical prison, approves individuals to enter and oversees the constant horror. The administration is fully aware of the lack of rationable food on the platform but continuously introduced to potential prisoners the idea of “there’s enough for everyone if you just take what you need”.
