MONSTER (NETFLIX REVIEW) 2021
It wasn’t easy predicting the flow of this black American drama movie which was released in 2018 but got added to Netflix this year. It was among the top 10 movies for the weekend on Netflix, so I decided to check it out.
The movie gave me the chills and I kept wishing it went otherwise and he didn’t make a mistake. Life is so funny. One single mistake can cause you 18 years in imprisonment just because of your association with the wrong clique. Steve Harmon paid dearly for his disobedience by going to the park against his mum’s instructions.
Steve Hamon played the lead role. He was a young boy who lived with his parents who loved him so much, and he had a kid brother who was his buddy. He was doing very well in school and planning very seriously for college. Steve had some good friends in his class and his teacher liked him a lot. He had a great flair for film making, so he joined the film academy in his school. Everywhere he went to, Steve had his small camera which he took pictures with for documentation purposes. He took very lovely pictures and had a dream to become a movie producer someday.
One fateful day on his way back from school, he met this bad guy “William King” who was a notorious young man who played basketball all day in the neighborhood. King asked Steve that he could take pictures of him as he played during the game and that he could also document his life. They became acquaintances meeting up daily after school.
On one hot summer afternoon as Steve was on his way back, King and Richard double crossed him and wanted his help with a little information. Steve was just a young naïve guy at the wrong place and at the wrong time and this caused Steve his freedom and almost his entire bright future.
Lessons learnt be careful who you associate and mingle with, they could your life and your future.

To my verdict I would score this movie 7/10. It was a very simple drama movie with loads of lessons to pass across, I liked the fact that there were just a few cast but each played their role appropriately. It was nice to see Jennifer Hudson in this movie.
I learnt loads of lessons about who you greet and associate with. I wished he had listened to his mum and obeyed her by avoiding bad companies. He had to learn in a very hard way. The movie left me sad, angry and speechless at the very end. If you love drama movies then you might want to try this out.
