Love Reset – Movie Review
Love Reset, directed by Uzo Osimkpa and an Omoni Oboli TV production, is a romantic drama steeped in tragedy, deceit, and the possibility of reborn love. The film weaves together themes of memory loss, hidden identities, and the dark undercurrents of personal betrayal, ultimately asking whether love can be rebuilt after trauma.
The story opens with Yemi, a prominent and influential public figure, embroiled in a bitter argument with his long-term girlfriend, Tonia. Desperate to break free from a five-year relationship, Yemi’s decision pushes Tonia over the edge. In a fit of rage, Tonia deliberately crashes their car into another vehicle. The accident is catastrophic: while the driver of the other car tragically loses his life, a young female passenger survives but with retrograde amnesia, leaving her with no recollection of her past.

Facing a scandal that could shatter his reputation, Yemi, aided by his influential father, Alhaji, opts to cover up the accident. After failing to unearth any details about the young woman’s identity, he takes matters into his own hands. He reinvents her by giving her a new name, “Fifekemi,” and brings her into his home. Within the confines of his family and trusted staff including his cousin and the household maid he makes any trace of her former life is systematically erased. In the process, Yemi also severs ties with Tonia, further distancing himself from the painful incident.
Fast forward three years: Fifekemi has now become an integral part of Yemi’s life. The couple’s relationship is solidified in the public eye when Yemi proposes to her in a nationally televised event. Yet, beneath the veneer of celebration, Fifekemi’s hesitant reaction hints at unresolved inner conflicts and unspoken truths about her lost past.
As wedding preparations kick off, an event planner named Cheta is brought on board. Almost immediately, an undeniable chemistry ignites between Cheta and Fifekemi. Their growing connection although initially unexpected gradually sows the seeds for a deeper bond that defies the carefully constructed reality around them.
Matters take a dark turn when a private investigator, hired by Tonia, captures compromising footage of Fifekemi and Cheta. Soon after, Yemi’s ever-vigilant maid uncovers evidence of the affair, and Yemi’s cousin confirms the betrayal by reporting back to him. Overwhelmed by the revelations and his own mounting guilt, Yemi loses control.

In a harrowing scene, Yemi ties up Fifekemi and, in the midst of torturing her, confesses his most damning secret: he was responsible for the accident that caused her amnesia. At the same time, a race against time unfolds as Tonia and Cheta converge on Yemi’s house. During this frantic chase, Tonia delivers a stunning revelation about Yemi having a long history of abusing women, and she herself was one of his victims. She also discloses that the maid was strategically placed in the household to protect Fifekemi, given her own background as the daughter of a retired soldier.
As Yemi prepares to further harm Fifekemi in a final act of cruelty, the protective maid intervenes. She reveals that every moment of Yemi’s dark deeds has been secretly recorded. In the ensuing chaos a struggle for control over a firearm occurs and Fifekemi is accidentally shot in the process, adding another layer of tragedy to the already devastating events.
The film’s climax shifts to a hospital setting, where Fifekemi, now under intensive care, is attended to by Cheta. Here, Cheta reveals an even deeper truth about Fifekemi’s forgotten past…a truth that holds the potential to reshape her future and perhaps, in time, allow her to reclaim her identity. The revelation opens the door to the possibility that, even after a reset wrought by tragedy and deceit, love might still offer a path to healing and renewal.
Love Reset is a tale of broken trust, hidden pasts, and the relentless search for redemption. While the film is rich with dramatic twists and emotionally charged confrontations, it ultimately poses a poignant question: Can love, when reset by the trauma of a forgotten past, pave the way for a brighter, more honest future?
