Moana 2 – Animated Movie Review

3 Min Read

Set several years after the events of the first film, Moana 2 begins with Moana living peacefully as the chief of Motunui. The island has flourished under her leadership, but Moana still feels the pull of the ocean a quiet call that never went away. One evening, as the tides shift strangely and the stars realign, she receives a message from the sea itself: a vision of faraway islands in danger. Her destiny, it seems, isn’t finished yet.

Against her people’s worries, Moana decides to set sail again, this time not to restore a heart, but to build bridges to unite distant islands across the vast Pacific that have drifted apart for generations. As she prepares for the voyage, she seeks out her old companion Maui, the shapeshifting demigod.

When she finds him, Maui is older, grumpier, and hilariously self-absorbed as ever, pretending he’s retired from “hero work.” Their reunion sparks immediate comic tension, but when the ocean itself begins to grow restless and new dark creatures rise from beneath the waves, Maui reluctantly agrees to join her.

Their journey takes them through stormy seas, haunted islands, and forgotten civilizations that hold clues about the origin of the ocean’s power. Moana learns that a new force a spirit of chaos born from human greed threatens to consume the Pacific. To stop it, she must convince divided tribes to unite once again under a single purpose.

Along the way, Maui faces his own reckoning with his fading powers, while Moana grows into the role of a true navigator one who not only sails the ocean but also leads hearts.

The animation is richer, with more natural realism in the waves and sky. The music, featuring new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, pulses with rhythm and emotion. By the end, as Moana stands beneath a sky full of stars, she realizes her people’s destiny was never to stay put it was to keep voyaging.
