4 Min Read

Suspicion opens with a dark, suspenseful tone, centered on Voke a man marked by secret powers. As a boy, Voke was subjected to a juju ritual performed by his mother, bathing him in enchanted water that made him effectively bulletproof.

Now an adult, he lives humbly in Lagos, grateful for a peaceful life with his loved ones. Voke cherishes Chisom (his devoted girlfriend), his best friend Rogba, and Rogba’s little daughter Lolu (who is also Voke’s goddaughter). These relationships give Voke warmth and purpose amid the shadows of his past.

Voke’s quiet world shatters when masked kidnappers strike. One afternoon as Lolu walks to school, mysterious hooded gunmen launch an ambush. Voke and Rogba fight back with everything they have, but the attackers prove impervious to bullets.

Lolu is snatched away, and soon after her lifeless body is discovered in a remote location. This horrifying loss, the brutally mutilated girl killed before their eyes ignites Voke’s rage and grief. His family’s worst nightmare has come true, and he vows to uncover who is responsible.

Determined to save face and avenge Lolu, Voke turns to the only help he knows: his own bloodline’s magic. He returns to his mother, Obatere (a powerful juju priestess), begging for any guidance. Even with her gift of premonition, she can only warn him of great danger. Against her wishes, Voke delves into black magic himself. Using the occult powers taught by his family, he begins to scurry for answers searching minds and visions for clues to Lolu’s killers.

Each new clue plunges him deeper into peril. A series of seemingly unrelated murders turn out to be connected, forming a dark trail back to the same clandestine evil that struck his family. As he investigates, a sinister assassin takes notice: a shadowy killer systematically targets anyone with ties to the case. Strangers disappear, and even those Voke trusts most find themselves under threat.

The film ratchets up the tension with betrayals and shocks around every corner. Juju magic and dark rituals are at the heart of this mystery, portrayed as tools Voke uses to uncover the truth rather than mere evil forces. Chisom, Voke’s brave partner becomes a crucial ally, even leaping to his defense during a deadly confrontation. Meanwhile, suspicion falls on every friend and acquaintance.

Throughout, Suspicion maintains a brooding, cinematic atmosphere: each night-scene is lit by flickering lanterns or city lights, and every creak or thunderclap hints at the unknown. In the end, Voke must face the true mastermind behind the terror and reckon with the moral weight of the magic he wields.
The climax ties the plot threads together with dramatic reveals, but Suspicion is careful not to spoil the payoff: it simply leaves the audience on the edge of their seats, tense and engrossed by this supernatural thriller’s ride
