The Mitchells vs the machines is an animated sci-fi comedy film following a quirky, dysfunctional family who must save humanity during a global robot apocalypse.

Katie Mitchell, a quirky, creative outsider who feels misunderstood by her family and is eager to leave for college to find “her people”. Rick Mitchell, her well/meaning but old-school, nature-loving dad who is worried about Katie’s future and decides to cancel her flight to drive the family across the country.

As the family is struggling to connect on the road, a brilliant tech CEO introduced a new line of personal robots. Feeling replaced, the company’s discarded AI assistant, PAL, goes rogue. She takes control of the robots and all electronic devices, commanding them to capture every human on the planet and launch them into space.

The Mitchells manage to evade capture; they soon team up with two malfunctioning, friendly robots who provide them with tactical information. The family hits the road, turning into action heroes as they fight off giant smart home appliances and possessed toys. The family eventually breached PAL’s headquarters, but the AI captures the parents and brainwashes them.

Katie and Aaron manage to rescue them, the family’s harrowing experience bridges their differences. Rick finally understands and supports his daughter’s unique creativity.
