HELL CAT-HOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEW

4 Min Read

Hellcat is a claustrophobic survival thriller that evolves from a suspected kidnapping into a supernatural creature feature. Following Lena awakens disoriented inside a dark, moving Airsteem camper trailer. She discovers a deep, gruesome wound on her upper arm from which black veins are quickly spreading.

A voice abruptly speaks to her from an intercom hidden inside a taxidermied animal head on the wall, the driver introducing himself as Clive, claims he is an honest man who finds her wounded and unconscious at her campsite. He informs her that she has been “infected” by a fast-moving, lethal virus.

Clive claims he padlocked her inside for her own safety and is rushing her to a specialist doctor; they have exactly one hour to reach him before the infection takes her heart and turns her into something monstrous.

Trapped and skeptical, Lena treats Clive as a hostile captor. She searches the trailer for weapons and an escape route but the windows are barred and the door is dead bolted. As she investigates, she finds highly disturbing clues that point to Clive being a psychotic serial killer. The refrigerator is packed with raw, bloody meat and syringes full of heavy sedatives. She uncovers a hidden, padlocked back room fitted with shackles and a blood-stained bed housing an unresponsive, heavily bound woman.

Lena attempts to manipulate Clive over the intercom, sharing about her past and revealing that she is pregnant to appeal to his humanity. Over their conversations, Clive shares his own grief. He reveals that his wife Becca, whom he affectionately nicknamed “Hellcat” has passed away and that his daughter, Ollie has been severely “changed” ever since an attack she suffered while away at college.

Lena begins to experience bizarre symptoms, she catches herself tasting the raw animal blood from the fridge and realizes with horror that she craves it. Clive’s behavior grows more erratic, she hears him calling into a late-night cryptid radio talk show, rambling about aliens and “weirs” (werewolves). Lena becomes convinced that Clive is a delusional conspiracy theorist who has fabricated the “infection”.

A self-appointed cryptid hunter posing as a police officer pulls the truck over, hunting down what he believes are werewolves and immediately targets Lena. Leading to a violent standoff where crimp shoots Clive. During the struggle, Lena bites Clive, escaping into the woods. Crumps captures Lena, planning to keep her caged as proof of the supernatural.

The truth of Clive’s story is entirely validated: the werewolf infection is real, the specialized doctor never existed. Furthermore, the woman locked was not a kidnapping victim but Clive’s daughter is a full-fledged werewolf who was the entity that attacked and not Lena at her campsite.
Clive tracks Crump down to rescue Lena, amidst the chaos of the final confrontation, Lena goes into sudden labor and gives birth to a baby girl who visibly exhibits werewolf traits. Crimp is defeated, Lena and Ollie bonded by the same curse decided to stick together.
