The Anniversary is a chamber film following a married couple whose milestone celebration is upended by the return of a figure from their past life. Dr. Risani Dankat and his wife Olije prepare to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. On the surface, they project the image of a stable, happy union. However, their relationship carries underlying tension, unspoken grief and btw heavy psychological weight of dealing with infertility and past cracks in trust.

The quiet rhythm of their anniversary is disrupted by the unannounced arrival of Terfa Orbunde. Terfa is an old friend who was originally supposed to be Risani’s best man at their wedding a decade prior. Instead of showing up for the ceremony ten years ago, Terfa vanished abruptly without explanation. His sudden reappearance forces both Risani and Olije to confront long-buried memories, suspicions and unresolved emotional pain.
Rather than relying on loud melodrama or sensationalizing an affair, the film plays out like a tight chamber drama focusing on interior fallout. Terfa’s presence acts as a catalyst, exposing the creeping insecurity, quiet paranoia and guarded resentment that have silently eroded Risani and Olije’s marriage from inside out. Secrets surface about the history shared between the three characters, revealing why Terfa fled and how his absence is tied to the hidden fractures in the couple’s bond.

As the night progresses, the heavy dialogue strips away the pristine public facade of the Dankat marriage. The film ultimately explores how pride, guilt and lingering resentment prevent true healing, leading to an ambiguous and reflective conclusion rather than a neat, happy reconciliation.
