BROKEN HALLELUJAH – NOLLYWOOD YOUTUBE REVIEW
Broken Hallelujah follows Moroundiya “Diya” (Bimbo Ademoye), who, orphaned in early childhood and raised by her devout grandmother, nurtures a lifelong crush on her friend Chukwudi “Didi” (Daniel Etim Effiong). After a dramatic reunion sparked by Didi’s youth service return and the destruction of his shop they marry on the promise of a bright future.
But when five years pass without children, faith and marriage come under relentless pressure: from well-meaning “womb watchers,” from the lure of herbal remedies and IVF, and from near-infidelity at the hands of Didi’s scheming business partner, Dotun (Eso Dike). Guided by the unseen presence of her grandmother’s spirit, Diya endures a crisis of faith before reconciliation unleashes the long-awaited miracle of motherhood.

Moroundiya “Diya” is introduced as a toddler being baptised in her local church, a ceremony shadowed by the recent loss of her father and, three years later, her mother. She is taken in by her grandmother, Iya Agba (Barbara Soky), whose godly influence imbues Diya with a steadfast, prayerful upbringing until the grandmother’s passing leaves Diya profoundly alone.
Even as a child, Diya harbors a secret infatuation with her classmate “brother” Okudili (Didi), the church drummer, believing herself the only one nursing silent, tender feelings.

Just back from her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Diya reunites with her childhood crush when Didi returns to their village after his shop is razed in a clash with local tax collectors.
The fire drives Didi to Lagos to rebuild his life, but true to his word, he eventually comes back, sweeping Diya off her feet and marrying her for love rather than convenience.
They relocate to Lagos together, brimming with hope that their union will flourish both emotionally and physically.
A year into their marriage, the newlyweds face a harsh reality: five years without conceiving arouse whispers of “womb watchers” counting down to the day Diya’s belly should show a bump.

Despite Didi’s flourishing shop and Diya’s work as a digital content creator, their comfortable lifestyle offers no shield against the emotional turmoil of unexplained infertility.
Pressure from relatives leads Diya to try IVF, only to be battered by Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome and a string of negative tests, reinforcing her sense that her body “simply didn’t want it.”
In desperation, an elderly aunt recommends herbal concoctions. Diya takes them, only to experience phantom pregnancy symptoms culminating in the heartbreak of an empty ultrasound screen.
Diya’s continual church attendance and fervent prayers yield silence, causing her faith to fracture; she withdraws from worship, convinced God has abandoned her. Meanwhile, Didi’s business partner, Dotun (Eso Dike), teases him with stories of quick, outside solutions, introducing him to Beauty (Moet Abebe), a client whose late-night fittings almost become an affair. Although Didi resists, his momentary wavering and the spectre of infidelity threaten to shatter their marriage more completely than childlessness ever could.

Through flashes of memory, Diya’s baptism, a near-fatal childhood accident, her grandmother’s bedside prayers and an unseen presence steadies Diya’s heart, hinting at the spirit of Iya Agba guiding her. After a tearful reconciliation at their church’s prayer service, Didi leads Diya in a final, desperate plea for relief. Miraculously, Diya discovers she is truly pregnant no scans required.
