THE ALMAJIRI-NOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEW

The Almajiri is a film that follows a 14-year-old boy named Rabiu who uses his talent for electronics to dream of becoming an engineer. Rabiu lives in the ancient city of Kano, he is an abandoned almajiri child, survives through hunger, begging on the street and stealing small items. Despite his hard life, he has a special genius for fixing and building electronics.

Rabiu meets Safiya, a kind teacher, she sees his big potential and teaches him in secret. Rabiu wants to learn both traditional religious teachings and modern western education. Mallam Bala is the Islamic teacher who raised Rabiu, he got angry because he thinks western education ruins a child’s religious faith. Rabiu must choose between his old life and his new dream.

A controversial activist arrives with an offer, he promises to take Rabiu and his friends for a better life. The boys travel to Abuja liking for hope, a bad politician wants to use the poor, helpless children for his own political power, Rabiu fights to keep his education and his future safe before the system destroys him.
