Movie Review – AYAMmA
It’s with great pleasure I bring you the review for “Ayamma”, it totally made my day, I must sincerely commend that our producers are beginning to think deeper, become more creative and innovative and making movies with twists that you can never predict. This is one amazing, beautiful and fantastic Nigerian movie and I give it all out to them, they showcased the beautiful terrain on Akwa Ibom state. I must commend that as time goes by and I watch “Adesuwa” the more I get to love her more and get really impressed with her style of acting and composure. She is really indeed brilliant and should rack in fantastic awards. Although this movie did not have as much in pre advertisement as the wedding party, I must say that it was ok. Although there were just very little issues with the movie in regards to sounds, lightening and singing scenes since it was short in the village and at night, it was still ok to me. This movie sure reminds me of the great Figurine “Araromire”. Movies that you watch and keep you thinking and wondering till the very end. The ones that you watch and never forget as the unraveling nature of the movie keeps you thinking even years after, what would have happened or they should have done otherwise. Really they took me unawares and I sure will recommend this movie to everyone to go and watch. It will be very difficult not to let so much out of the bag, but even days after this movie sure puts smile on my face and I was so happy that despite the twist it kind of ended well.
The 2hrs movie absolutely didn’t look as long as it seemed because even at the end, I just didn’t want this sweet movie to end, I just felt they could have shown us how they leaved happily ever after and how the wicked suffered more. I felt their suffering was short lived as they could have allowed Ekong and his wife to leave in misery and pain for all their evil, anyway I guess I am not a producer. The movie featured amazing acts like Adesuwa Etomi, Wole Ojo, Theresa Edem, Majid Michel and was produced by Emem Nsong Misodi
Ayanma started with the first scene where the 2 sons sat side by side their father on his Prince Daraima and Ekong. The elder brother was to take over the throne once their father died, as he was very ill, they both tried all they could to save him, but he still died. That was the beginning of issues between the brothers the elder brother had no clue that his younger brother would connive with the chief priest to make his brother mad so that he could take over his wife and the throne. To treat the elder brother he needed a princess who loved him to sing for him and that was almost impossible as he had given strict orders that no one must sing or rejoice until the night of his coronation. He had passed a degree that anyone who sings should be beheaded. Little did he know that he would be in a dilemma where he would need someone to sing to him? The movie had a funny story line, he used to see a very lovely pretty girl in his dream called Ayanma where they used to sing and dance. He loved her dearly and kept hoping and believing that one day he would meet her in reality and marry her. The movie had a very funny twist at the end that got people confused. The movie revealed jealousy, bitterness and struggle for power that made his younger brother do anything to take the position. It kind of ended well, making it a nice consolation.
To my verdict I will give this movie a lovely 7.5/10 they had a nice twist and a cool story line. The choice of location and cast were good. It was nice to see a movie that depicts the Ibibio’s culture. The movie revealed the ancient rules and Taboos of their kingdom and how twins were being killed. The movie revealed the consequences of evil, jealousy, pride and revenge. You must treat other right because what goes around comes around, and whatever actions you make will either make or mere you. Although there were slit issues with the sound, recording and the singing scenes, and some people had some issues with the movie, it was still very cool to me generally.
