Through vivid, psychedelic aesthetics, the film weaves symbols: swirling maid-faces, discarded objects (Kame’s comb), and cursed water used in ceremonies. These represent sacrifices, lost identities, and rising tension.
Asa notices Kame becoming increasingly anxious; and other maids act strangely. The cursed water is revealed to be a conduit for the mononoke’s power while the palace’s internal rivalries amplify spiritual unrest.
