“The Weekend” is a Nigerian psychological thriller directed by Daniel Oriahi. The film follows Nikiya, an orphaned woman eager to connect with her fiancé Luke’s estranged family. As they visit his rural hometown, Nikiya uncovers unsettling family secrets that challenge her desire for belonging.
Nikiya, having lost her parents early in life, longs for familial connections. Engaged to Luke, she urges him to introduce her to his family. Luke, estranged from his relatives for over a decade, is hesitant but eventually agrees to a weekend visit to his childhood home.

Upon arrival, Nikiya is warmly welcomed by Luke’s parents, Omicha and Meki. The atmosphere seems pleasing, and Nikiya feels hopeful about building familial bonds.
The arrival of Luke’s sister, Kama and her domineering fiancé, Zaidu introduces tension. Zaidu’s abusive behavior towards Kama is evident, yet the family appears indifferent, unsettling Nikiya.

Nikiya stumbles upon a mysterious box in the house, which she’s warned not to touch. Her curiosity leads to the revelation of disturbing family rituals and the real reason behind Luke’s estrangement.
As the weekend progresses, Nikiya uncovers the family’s dark past and the horrifying truths that bind them. Her desire for belonging is tested as she confronts the reality of the family she’s eager to join.
