SPELLBOUND: NETFLIX’S ANIMATED MUSICAL FANTASY
In the magical kingdom of Lumbria, young Princess Ellian is forced to shoulder responsibilities far beyond her years. One year ago, a mysterious dark spell born from the constant bickering and unhappiness between her royal parents, King Solon and Queen Ellsmere transformed them into unruly, monstrous versions of themselves. Though now physically frightening, these “monsters” retain traces of their former selves hidden beneath their beastly exteriors.
To keep the truth secret from the kingdom’s subjects, Ellian’s trusted royal advisors, Ministers Bolinar and Nazara Prone, have been helping to conceal the curse. With her 15th birthday approaching, a day when she is expected to assume full royal duties the advisors begin to push the idea that maybe it’s time for Ellian to step up as the new queen.

Refusing to accept that her parents are lost forever, Ellian embarks on a daring quest to break the spell. As a final hope, she arranges a secret meeting with two deities, the Oracles of the Sun and Moon; Sunny and Luno hoping that their divine magic might reverse the curse. However, when the oracles visit the palace, the monstrous forms of her parents frighten them away, leaving behind only a peculiar magical device known as “The Fob.” This enchanted relic, which merges the residual powers of the oracles, becomes Ellian’s key to reclaiming her family.
In the ensuing chaos, Ellian inadvertently frees her parents from the cages in which they were confined. Their sudden rampage across the palace sends shockwaves through Lumbria. The kingdom descends into panic as the Captain of the Guard orders the removal of these dangerous beasts. Desperate to rescue her family, Ellian employs the Fob’s magic to elude the guards. In one chaotic twist, the Fob’s power even causes Minister Bolinar to accidentally swap bodies with Flink, Ellian’s loyal pet rodent a mishap that adds both humor and urgency to their flight.

Ellian, her magically unhinged parents, and the unexpected Bolinar-Flink duo escape into the wild. Their journey takes them deep into the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness a place as foreboding as it is mysterious. At a secluded cottage in the forest, the Oracles finally reveal that the only way to break the spell is for Ellian’s parents to journey to the mystical Lake of Light. However, there’s a catch: while the journey can restore their human form, it cannot recover the full memories of who they once were.
Determined, Ellian leads her parents through a perilous landscape. They cross a vast desert filled with quicksand, where Ellian’s bravery shines through when she rescues a stranded gryphon baby, returning it safely to its worried parents. This act of compassion triggers a breakthrough: for the first time, King Solon and Queen Ellsmere recall the deep love and responsibility of parenthood and they recognize Ellian as the beloved daughter she is.
Reaching the Lake of Light, the group confronts the heart of the curse. The shimmering waters reveal that the relentless, unresolved conflict between Solon and Ellsmere is what fueled the dark magic that transformed them. In a heartbreaking climax, the once-proud royal couple admits that their constant fighting and mutual unhappiness have irrevocably changed them. Realizing that their love for each other has waned and that staying together would only continue to endanger the family’s harmony, they make the painful decision to part ways.
